This might be a no-brainer for a seasoned WP veteran…

How do you go about developing a new site “locally” or in a sub-directory of a domain name, so no one sees the new site as it’s being developed?

If I develop in a sub-directory, how can I move everything to the root folder, since WP is tied to a database?

I’m used to working with a set of local HTML files, and publishing as I update them (or all at once.)

How do you develop a WP site before it’s ready to go live?

    Thank you.

  • This is covered extensively in the documentation. Find the Codex articles for “Installing WordPress” and “Moving WordPress”.

There’s also “Giving WordPress its own Directory”, if you prefer to go that route.

    Thanks, fonglh.

I no sooner posted this and then located the installation tutorials.
