• I’m running an old site at http://www.domain.com, and thought it makes sense to install WordPress on a subdomain, say, dev.domain.com.

When I am ready to go live, I want to change from dev.domain.com to http://www.domain.com. The documentation points to a change of domain, but is this a complete domain change, or does the fact that I’m using a subdomain make thinks easier? I’m not actually moving the site, just changing the subdomain.

It’s a domain change. If you’re changing nothing else, use the plugin “better search and replace”. Search for http://dev.domain.com and replace with http://www.domain.com. Be sure to disable all caching plugins before doing so. When you’re done, clear all browser cookies relating to the dev.domain.com site.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to, I was expecting a notification. Many thanks for your confirmation, and suggestion, that should prove very useful.
