    I maintain several sites in a large organization.

    Starting this morning several sites’ WordPress Admin-side response slowed severely to 2 to 3 minutes to load each page, front-facing unaffected. On a DEV site, removed all plugins and readded back, identified source of issue as Depicter. (deactivate and returns to fine).

    Query Monitor shows admin_init taking 121 seconds.

    Error:
    {“message”:”Request failed with status code 503″,”name”:”Error”,”response”:{“data”:{“errors”:[“Server error: GET https://wp-api.depicter.com/v1/core/announcements?category=promotions-wp-dash resulted in a 504 Gateway Timeout response:\nerror code: 504\n\n”]},”status”:503,”statusText”:”Service Unavailable”,”headers”:{“cache-control”:”no-cache, must-revalidate, max-age=0, no-store, private”,”content-length”:”184″,”content-security-policy”:”frame-ancestors ‘self’;, frame-ancestors ‘self'”,”content-type”:”application/json”,”date”:”Thu, 24 Sep 2026 19:19:03 GMT”,”expires”:”Wed, 11 Jan 1984 05:00:00 GMT”,”referrer-policy”:”strict-origin-when-cross-origin”,”server”:”Apache/2.4.68 (Debian)”,”strict-transport-security”:”max-age=157680000; includeSubDomains”,”x-content-type-options”:”nosniff, nosniff”,”x-frame-options”:”SAMEORIGIN, SAMEORIGIN”,”x-qm-overview-memory”:”24.9 MB”,”x-qm-overview-memory-usage”:”2.4% of 1,024 MB server limit”,”x-qm-overview-time-taken”:”120.6442″,”x-qm-overview-time-usage”:”12.1% of 1,000s limit”,”x-robots-tag”:”noindex”,”x-xss-protection”:”1; mode=block”},”config”:{“method”:”get”,”headers”:{“Accept”:”application/json, text/plain, /“,”X-DEPICTER-CSRF”:”516695d945″,”X-DEPICTER-CKEY”:”ab516f7b77dd1bfe85694745164aa48c”},”params”:{“action”:”depicter-info-promotion”},”baseURL”:”https://rhc-intranet.testweb.prv/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php”,”transformRequest”:[null],”transformResponse”:[null],”timeout”:150000,”xsrfCookieName”:”XSRF-TOKEN”,”xsrfHeaderName”:”X-XSRF-TOKEN”,”maxContentLength”:-1,”maxBodyLength”:-1,”transitional”:{“silentJSONParsing”:true,”forcedJSONParsing”:true,”clarifyTimeoutError”:false}},”request”:{}},”config”:{“method”:”get”,”headers”:{“Accept”:”application/json, text/plain, /“,”X-DEPICTER-CSRF”:”516695d945″,”X-DEPICTER-CKEY”:”ab516f7b77dd1bfe85694745164aa48c”},”params”:{“action”:”depicter-info-promotion”},”baseURL”:”https://rhc-intranet.testweb.prv/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php”,”transformRequest”:[null],”transformResponse”:[null],”timeout”:150000,”xsrfCookieName”:”XSRF-TOKEN”,”xsrfHeaderName”:”X-XSRF-TOKEN”,”maxContentLength”:-1,”maxBodyLength”:-1,”transitional”:{“silentJSONParsing”:true,”forcedJSONParsing”:true,”clarifyTimeoutError”:false}}}

    Looks like whatever api check server, its trying to contact is down.

    We have several paid licences, so I sent my email to open a ticket. But didn’t see anyone else reporting similar here, so thought I’d be the first.

  • The problem lies with depicter. When accessing wp-api.depicter.com and aid.wp-api.depicter.com from my hosting server, a timeout occurs (no response within 15 seconds), pre.wp-api.depicter.com returns status code 525 and then times out, api.my.depicter.com/mx/ returns HTTP status code 500, and the login form at my.depicter.com/auth/login fails with the message ‘Request failed with status code 500’. As the plugin waits synchronously for these calls, the dashboard and the publishing action block PHP workers until the web server triggers a timeout, which causes wp-admin to crash.

    Hi,
    I’m sorry for the trouble and frustration this caused. The issue was unexpected, and I truly regret the impact it had on your site. We’ve now fixed the problem and added the necessary safeguards to prevent it from happening again. Please check your site now and let us know if you notice anything else.
