Delay Mail Send or Send on Queue (wait for server response)

I am posting JSON to an external client server.
I am receiving the response from that server and inputting it into a hidden field.
Currently, though, the validation/email is happening and being sent before that can happen.
What I need to be able to do is delay the email send until the server response comes back so I can include it in the hidden form field/email.
