Defect slowing page saving down massively
-
Hi,
Recently a lot of our site editors have been having serious speed issues when saving posts – Pages, Posts, Custom post types, products – everything basically. When I say serious issues, I mean extremely slow – like it takes 90 seconds to save/publish a post.
This seemed to start around the time I upgraded to WordPress 7 but I can’t be 100% sure on that.
So I assumed it was something database related so started trying to trim down wp_postmeta, wp_option – using various methods, none of which really had any effect. Obviously this is very time consuming work and I have spent a considerable number of hours/days so far trying to understand the cause of this.
Then I thought, what plugins are in play when saving posts – Facebook pixel possibly (awfully bad plugin riddled with issues and seemed a likely culprit) – but no effect disabling that. Then I thought Yoast maybe – so I disabled Yoast, Yoast premium add-on and the ACF connector… hey presto my page saving goes from 90 seconds to the normal 2 or 3 seconds.
So… I can definitively say that Yoast is the issue here, and possibly that the defect began with the update to WordPress 7.
Has anyone else had this or do you have any suggestions as to how I might resolve it?
We’ve been Yoast Premium customers for 6 years now but at this point, it’s so bad that I will turn Yoast off permanently in favour of a speedy admin experience if I can’t get this sorted – hopefully it won’t come to that though, fingers crossed!
Many thanks
