Default Rejected User Agents = all mobile devices?

    Hi,

    we just started using W3 Total cache. What got me wondering were the default set rejected user agents (in the Page Cache section):

    iPhone
iPod
Android
BB10
BlackBerry
webOS
IEMobile/7.0
IEMobile/9.0
IEMobile/10.0
MSIE 10.0
iPad
PlayBook
Xoom 
P160U
SCH-I800
Nexus 7
Touch

    I don’t get why the page cache is deactivated for mobile devices by default? I double checked it in the .htaccess where I also found that mobile devices are excluded from the page cache. Is there a reason behind this?

    Hello @tillmeier

    Thank you for reaching out.
    By default the filed in Performance>Page Cache>Advanced>Rejected user agents: should be empty and I’ve confirmed that with the fresh installation.

    So someone must have added those user agents to the list. It’s is safe to remove them.

    Okay thank you! So I just removed it, refreshed the .htaccess & purged the caches. Since this change my website is cached on mobile, but it is not possible to scroll anymore. As I begin to scroll, Safari tries to block it and immediately goes back to the top. After I deactivated mobile page cahing again ( by adding the rejected user agents again ), the problem was gone.
    If you want to I can provide a screen record of the scrolling problem if this helps.

    Thank you for the info.
    So it appears that someone added those because of the reason you are describing.
    Is the problem only on Safari or other browsers as well?
    Try enabling User Agent Groups in Performance>Cache Groups>User Agent Groups and enable the user agents by specifying names in the user agents field. Assign a set of user agents to use a specific theme, redirect them to another domain or if an existing mobile plugin is active, create user agent groups to ensure that a unique cache is created for each user agent group. Drag and drop groups into order (if needed) to determine their priority (top -> down).
