    Hello,

    When I set a default Facebook image in Yoast SEO, it displays all the time even when there are images on the page I would prefer to be shown on Facebook.

    Can anyone please help?

    Thanks

  • Hi @hype123,

    Sorry to see that the image you’d like to see as the Facebook image isn’t appearing. Have you set your desired image as the featured image for the page or did you set it as the Facebook image under the Social tab in the Yoast SEO metabox?

    We noticed in the page source that there are multiple og:image meta tags on the page. See the screenshot. Does removing these tags solve the problem?

    Hello Priscilla,

    The pages in question are item pages that generate them self’s when a user posts an item.
    They work fine when Yoast is deactivated and the main picture shows when shared on Facebook but as soon as I activate Yoast, it then uses the default Yoast Facebook picture?

    I also can’t do anything about the tags because this is part of the theme and I can’t change it for every page, every time a new item gets uploaded and I don’t think this is the problem anyway because it works fine when Yoast is deactivated.

    Thanks

    @hype123 Can you please let us know how the page’s other images are added to the page?

    This may be due to the other image content of the page being created outside of the default WordPress editor. Can you let us know if you are using a page builder plugin such as Visual Composer, Site Origin, Beaver Builder etc to add the other images to the page?

    @devnihil I’m using Elementor

    @hype123 Thanks for your response.

    We attempted to replicate the issue with a test page built using Elementor Version 3.2.1 that only contained an image we placed using Elementor, with a default image configured under SEO>Social>Facebook and the og:image that was output for the page was that which was placed on the page with Elementor.

    If you add a featured image to the page, or an image in the social tab of the Yoast SEO meta box dos this override the default image being used for the preview of the page?

    @devnihil I can’t access the Yoast SEO meta box because when I click to edit the page it takes me straight to Elementor, please see https://snipboard.io/9McnJ3.jpg

    Hi @hype123

    We’re not exactly familiar with your set-up or how these pages are generated, but if you can find a way to edit that post or page with the default WordPress editor, you should be able to find the Yoast SEO meta box and then go to the Social tab and Facebook section in order to change it to a specific image for Facebook sharing.

    You also mentioned that you are using Elementor. We do know that you can use Yoast SEO within Elementor by following the steps here — https://yoast.com/help/how-to-use-yoast-seo-in-elementor/

    You should be able to find the ‘Facebook preview’ tab in the Yoast SEO section within Elementor.

    @mikes41720 I have found the Yoast section in Elementor but this only allows me to set a static picture and this will be shown on all pages. The page is a template so it needs to pull the picture by it’s self when a user uploads it. I don’t understand why Yoast is overriding this and displaying the default image.

    Hi,

    We’re not exactly sure with your setup (a page template that needs to pull the picture when a user uploads it), but in this case, it looks like the Yoast SEO plugin is unable to detect the images uploaded by your users.

    Since we are seeing other open graph image tags in the page source (not being generated by the Yoast SEO plugin), you can either disable the open graph output from the Yoast SEO plugin (under SEO > Social > Facebook tab) so that the open graph output would be dependent on your other plugin/code, or you can modify the open graph output from the Yoast SEO plugin with our developer documentation here — https://developer.yoast.com/customization/apis/overview
