Database Connection Error

Not sure what’s causing this, but I found a work around…

I made a new user/db specifically for WP. I can log in fine using MySQLFront with the user/pass combo, but when I enter this info in the wp-config file it refuses to accept it. I’ve ended up having to use my default localhost superpower login to use WP which is horribly insecure. I triple checked permissions, server settings, etc etc but contiunue to experience errors using any user other than root. Any ideas?

OS is Win XP SP2, host, user, pass, and DB were copied directly from MySQLFront and works flawlessly there but will nto work under WP.
