Customizing plugin

I am new to wordpress and developing my own theme, in which i have added contact form 7, but i wanted to customize it by going into the css folder of contact form 7.

My question is, if the plug in is updated by the plugin author, will the customized contact form still work? Or is there a different approach to stylize the form ?
