i’m honestly wondering if it’s a linking issue. at the moment, i don’t have a way of making this site live as it’s a redesign of an existing site – so it can’t go up until the old one is taken down and i’m afraid i don’t have permission to take it down just yet. However, here are a few screenshots. if you could tell me what are the things that you may need to look at, i’d be happy to send you.

I am really not able to figure out the solution this way.
The only logical explanation I can come up with is that the child theme is interfering with the working of the theme.
Try uninstalling the child theme and apply the css changes to the parent theme.

i just activated the parent theme and added the css code you provided in its style sheet. same thing happens.

I have done nothing exceptional in the theme. Just hardcoded the css change in the theme.
It can also be done in other ways as well.

sigh. so turns out something was broken with my wordpress install. even after i downloaded the customized theme you sent me and ran it, it kept showing the same problems. so i figured, this probably isn’t a theme issue at all. so i deleted the wordpress database altogether and reinstalled everything; then installed the ving and made a new child theme. now it works. but now i have to do all my customizations all over again :'( because deleting the database seemed to have permanently deleted my old child theme :'( so i can’t retrieve the original customizations.
glad we figured out the issue and thanks to both of you for so much help and patience! i am all the time more and more impressed by the online programming communities! you guys are awesome! this whole mess surely taught me a lot. 🙂
there is one more thing i need to ask about the functions.php enqueing but i’m wondering whether this is the right thread for this. if it’s ok by you guys, i’ll post my question. otherwise i’ll try to find a more generic wordpress forum.
