• I admit I’m a beginner to this level of coding or making changes.

The coding for the customization for theme Twenty Twelve has changed recently.

We would prefer that the top level menu be under our header image.
Also, we had set up a special color background for our side bar, which does not have color any longer.

We had a web designer set up the higher level coding, and now I’m learning as I go.

Thank you for any assistance or guidance.

  • If you intend to modify the core code of a theme, you’ll want to get familiar with the process of creating Child Themes (http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes). Creating a Child Theme allows one to make customizations that will not be overwritten when a theme is updated.

If you only wish to make changes to the appearance, or CSS of your theme, many will suggest using the JetPack plugin’s Custom CSS Editor (http://jetpack.me/support/custom-css/).

I hope that helps point you in the right direction.
