Customize a site based on existing theme

Hi guys,

I had a PSD designed which is to be implemented onto wordpress. The site I have is hotel related – so I thought it would be easiest to implement this design onto an existing hotel theme.

Is it better to do this, or to put it on something like Genesis – which I’ve read seems to be easiest for developers?

I’m assuming the hotel theme would be best because it has existing features I might be able to utilize, but are there other considerations with using a well known theme like genesis that I’m missing out on? (i.e. speed, simplicity etc.)
