Customising a category listing

    Hi
    Imagine a category listing in which the top three latest articles are displayed with excerpts and boxed off in a div with an associated image, and the older articles are just listed as usual. Is this possible to do ? What I would like to achieve is a way of elegantly depreciating older content and giving emphasis to the latest posts.
    Obviously I don’t expect anyone to do this work for me but if anyone can recommend any relevant learning resources (other than reading wordpress org on categories and the loop) I’d really appreciate it,

    codex.wordpress.org is going to be the best place to start looking into this. My gut feeling is that you are going to need a plugin to do some of the work. You might even be looking for a Custom Query option. http://codex.wordpress.org/Custom_Queries

    I know you said that you were looking for something other than wordpress.org, but this is the best place to look.
