Is there a way you can send an automated email to customers once they have placed an order, to say their order is on the way?

In that case, I recommend getting in touch with WooCommerce’s support about this via https://woocommerce.com/my-account/create-a-ticket/ if you have any of their paid WooCommerce products or https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/woocommerce/ if you do not.
