I’m not sure I have this correct, but I am using Ultimate Member to allow different custom user roles to access various pages within the website.

I now have the situation where I want to create an ‘admin’ role, that can only access a custom post type.

So for example, the ‘board-admin’ can only administer post types that are designated ‘Board Member Uploads’ as a custom post type set-up using ACF.

Having a quick read through, it looked as if I could instal the plugin ‘User Role Editor’.

I am also looking at the page: https://docs.ultimatemember.com/article/1594-custom-post-type-capabilities-not-showing-in-the-wp-capabilities-in-user-role-settings

The issue I have is that when I go to my required CPT and click update, I get asked to confirm permissions, which I do.

Then, when I go back to my UM User Roles and and look for my listed items, which I would expect would look something like:

    edit_board_post
    edit_published_board_post
    edit_others_board_post

etc etc, none of these check boxes are there. All it does is grant that user access to ALL CPT post types, not just the Board Member ones.

I’m obviously missing a step or something, but I just cannot see what I am doing wrong ?

Andy help would be greatly appreciated.

    Andy

The only other element I can see that is different is that when I am in USers -> User Role Editor, when I have slected the items, the ‘update’ button is not blue. Maybe this indicates that something is not installed properly or there is a setting that needs to be updated.

Hmm, the more I look at it, it’s probably more a User Role Editor plugin ‘issue’.

    Hello @kennedyd

This is most likely the ACF issue. Did you use this method to register your custom post type? The documentation states that:

By default the capabilities of the post type will inherit the ‘Post’ capability names, eg. edit_post, delete_posts

    https://www.advancedcustomfields.com/resources/registering-a-custom-post-type/#permissions

Verify the custom post type settings you set-up using ACF. Have you changed the Capability Name to board_post? Please take a screenshot of your custom post type settings, like this example: https://ibb.co/8gbdcLZm

Usually, post type capabilities automatically appear in the WP Capabilities section of the user role settings. See example: https://ibb.co/CKHz9Fp9

Sometimes, you may need the “User Role Editor” plugin to manage the capabilities of custom post types added in an unusual way. That plugin can handle non-standard situations like CPT registered via ACF. See example: https://ibb.co/Rpzcqw4T
