    Hi all,

    Under Page -> Attributes, I could not find the drop-down menu for templates. I wanted to add my own design for the page, which I have used FTP to transfer a PHP file to wp-content/themes/ under a directory called default.

    WordPress has explained on the link below that template list will show only if there is at least one custom page template file in my active theme’s folder. I was wondering how could I check for the active theme’s folder?

    I thought another possible reason might be my php file is somehow incorrect. I added the line below to my home.html, and saved as php file
    <?php /* Template Name: Home
    */?>

    Could anybody help me with using my own design for pages?

    Thanks in advance.

    What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    I did not download a theme, I was designing my own page from scratch.

    Thanks

    Have you reviewed Theme Development?

    Thank you, I will read into it and edit mine according to the standard. Would it be safe for me to assume that if the coding standard is met, WP would be able to recognize it and thus show the Custom theme option under pages?

    Thank you

    I had tried to use a sample php file provided by WP (link here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates )

    But after I had saved a copy under wp-content/themes, I still could not see the template drop-down.

    Would you please help me on that one?

    Thank you

    Why are you looking at Author Templates? You need to look custom page templates.

    I was trying to get a php file that complies with WP standards, so I could try to see how the custom template would work with a good php file.

    Knowing that php file will take me days to improve, I just wanted to make sure after I had edited my php file, I could successfully use this on the page template.

    Thank you

    You chose a really bad example. Check out the link I posted above and then try examining the page.php default template in, say, the 2013 theme.

    I’d also suggest reviewing http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Review
