• Hi,

I hope this is not a RTFM or something covered by the FAQ, I quickly looked and searched doc/faq/forum but can’t find any information on that…

Our server is using a different name for the .htaccess files, so to make WP happy we have added back .htaccess to the list of valid AccessFileName filenames.

My question is, would it be possible to tell WP to use a custom filename instead of the default .htaccess ?

    Many thanks,

    a.

  • you can probably coax WP into recognizing an alternate .htaccess filename (I don’t recall off the top of my head whether you can declare that in wp-config, that would be really easy), however i think the easiest/quick and dirty fix would be to create a symbolic link for .htaccess to whatever your host is using (assuming they’ll let you create a symlink), that’s worked for us in the past in similar cases.

Ah right, symlink would be a good workaround indeed, didn’t thought about that.

After a quick look it seems that the only way to make WP directly work with a custom htaccess filename would be to modify admin-functions.php.
The change looks really trivial but touching the main code will make it a bit a pain to sync with upcoming updates (even if it’s just a matter of a single sed oneliner 🙂

It could be a nice extra minor features to have it managed from wp-config or the admin interface I think.

    Anyway, thanks for your reply!
