• Hello everyone! I am getting the following error message when trying to update any plugins: “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration.”
I already talked to my hosting service, they say they cannot see any issues and everything seems normal.
WordPress now also does not show any available plugins, but did before. Before, I got the message “Download failed. cURL error 28: connect() timed out!” when trying to update. Now I don’t even see any updates.

Please install the health check plugin and report back its findings: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/

You’ll have to install it manually; download the file, then go to plugins->add new and click the button to upload a plugin.

Please reply with the information from the debug tab.

    The keys see to be

Communication with WordPress.org: Unable to reach WordPress.org at 198.143.164.252: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!
Create loopback requests: The loopback request to your site failed, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.<br>Error encountered: (0) cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 10001 milliseconds with 0 bytes received

Ask your host why loopback is failing and whether they’re blocking access to wp.org via their firewall.

Also ask if they can update both PHP and Curl — you’re running outdated versions of both.

I tested the loopback request for individual plugins and all plugins completed the request except for these three:
    All In One SEO Pack
WooCommerce – All in One SEO Pack
    SEO Ultimate

Do you have an idea why exactly these plugins failed?

After I deactivated those plugins, all loopback requests were completed, but the Communication with WordPress.org still said: Unable to reach WordPress.org at 198.143.164.252: cURL error 28: connect() timed out!

This type of error occurred to me because I’m running Apache (from XAMPP) on local windows machine inside an intranet with a proxy policy in place.

Looking through curl forums and manual page while testing \apache\bin\curl.exe, I found that in my case I must specify the proxy for curl to use.
On my wp-config.php, I had to specify my intranet proxy like described in https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/75048/how-to-use-the-http-api-with-a-proxy. Just comment the lines you don’t care and get the host and port from your system connection settings.
Finally, WP’s plugins are updated and communication with wordpress sites is restablished.!
