Crop and Resize increases kb size

The default setting is to crop and resize images. I usually resize images to the required size before upload e.g. 400px x 250px and 27KB
Easingslider then creates a resized image imagename-400×250.jpg of the same pixel size but the file size is much larger at 71KB.
Unchecking the crop and resize forces the use of the original full size image uploaded into the media library.
Can the compression quality setting be changed in Easingslider for this function, perhaps in the global settings.
