Creating Templates
-
Hi – I built my site some time ago and created php templates for different sets of pages. I moved the site to Theme Twenty Twenty-Two some time ago and it’s been working fine. I now want to create another group of pages with a different look and so I set out to create another template.
In the Edit / Templates screen I’m directed to the + at the top to create another new template. I do this but it then asks me to link this new template to a specific page only. I carry through with the process.
Back in the Dashboard – the page I linked to still shows up using the Default Template and my new Template is not in the drop-down list of available Templates.
I’ve also tried modifying one of the existing Templates that I don’t currently use – this results in my modifications (mainly colour changes) filtering back to change the Templates that are used.So – is it possible to create a New Template which will appear in the drop–down list of Templates to choose from. If so, how? If not, how do I get a set of pages looking different from standard pages? Do I need to use a different Theme?
A pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated. Thank you.
