course of action?

Hey, thanks for reading this. My site suffered massive spam attacks and I more or less abandoned it. Some of my readers wrote and suggested I implement CAPTCHA. I tried Gudlyf’s authimage, but unsuccessfully. Attempting to retrace my steps, I exchanged my altered wp-comments and wp-comments-post with the versions from the website. Right now, when I am trying to post a comment, I get an empty screen at the wp-comments-post; nothing is posted. What is a good way to deal with this?
