"Could not copy files. Installation failed."

Hi everyone,

I’m bringing a regurgitated subject to the table. I’m having trouble updating to the latest version of WordPress. When I try doing it through the site it says “”Could not copy files. Installation failed.” without giving any specifics. I noticed a lot of the threads mention media files, or specific parts of the site that caused this message, but mine doesn’t.

I changed the permission for wp-content to 777 but that did nothing, and I am super weary about doing anything else because 1. I am clueless when it comes to all this & 2. I’ve made small changes in the past to things on WordPress and it has cost me too much time and energy.

If someone can help talk me through it in digestible talk I would be much obliged. I’m really poor at WordPress, and will be unbelievably happy once this site is sorted.
