    Hi Paul!

Just noticed that besides update notices and those “silence are golden” core file error messages that I haven’t received firewall email alerts since November.

Hopefully that just means I haven’t been the subject of any attacks, but wanted to make sure autoupdates didn’t alter any settings? I double checked everything on the dashboard and I think it looks the same: and email report option is checked.

Did a recent sucuri sitecheck and it all looked good (although it always says “firewall not enabled”…is that just their way of trying to sell their product?). Just erring on side of caution πŸ™‚

Thanks again for the great plugin!

    Automatic updates shouldn’t affect this.

Are you getting entries in your audit trail for the plugin?

Is the checkbox for the Firewall section under “Firewall Response” definitely checked for sending notices? And the main Firewall module is definitely turned on?

    Hi Paul,

Looks like everything is checked off…where do I find the audit trail?

    Thanks!

If everything is checked off, then you wont receive email notifications. And if the Firewall module is checked off, then you definitely wont because the feature isn’t running.

Look under the main Simple Firewall plugin men for Audit Trail and enable it.

Sorry Paul, I meant they were checked on! And I just enabled audit trail so I will start monitoring it. Assuming I’ve just been happily avoiding hackers/spammers lately, but just wanted to touch base.

    Thanks!

    Hi Paul,

Well I checked the audit trail and I now see lists of some email attempts that I’m not getting like this one: “There was an attempt to send an email using the “wp_mail” function. It was sent to “(my email)” with the subject “Firewall Block Email Alert for http://smellslikeinfinitesadness.com”.

Other comments are going through, it’s the just the firewall alerts that aren’t. Any idea why? My email act is unlimited with my host, so that shouldn’t be an issue. Perplexed!

Check your php error logs, perhaps there’s something in there. I can’t think why you wouldn’t be getting email – we just use the native WordPress wp_mail() and if we were doing it completely wrong, a lot of people would we be reporting this, so it sounds like a local issue.

    Have you tried this?

I checked the error logs in my hostgator channel account and didn’t see any listed. I have gmail configured to receive the email associated with my site…only thing I’m not seeing is the firewall alerts, and I’m not sure why. I even checked the spam folder and its not going there either. Even stranger since I do get the automatic update emails and got the ‘core file change’ emails too. Just the firewall alerts that aren’t getting through.

Could they be filtered into another folder in your Gmail? Check your All Mail folder perhaps

Hi just checking back in on this. Still not receiving the alert emails but I do see the warnings in audit trail. I don’t see any type of filter in my email settings so this remains a mystery!

We’re looking to release a new update with lots of things in it, and one of these is a rejig of email.

Could you give this a go and see how it works for you?

    You can grab it here:

Hi Paul…do you know how long before you officially launch the plugin? I tried uploading something via FTP awhile back and my site went haywire, so I’m a little leery that I’ll mess something up :-/. I don’t mind waiting for the update given my iffy technical skills.

    Probably tomorrow I’d say…
