corrupted .htaccess file

Hi, playing around with the code for the .htaccess and accidentally put in a strand of code that makes a 500 internal server error sign pop up. I don’t have access to the site settings due to this and don’t have ftp or a backup of the site. Is there a way to fix this or should I just abandon this site and make a new one. Thanks!
