• Hi @geodirectory,

I am likely using Elementor methods not appropriate with the complexity and history of GD.

I am struggling for days with the correct way to have GD work with Elementor Pro & its templates. I have installed your Elementor’s demos, but even with that, it is unconsistent, or working under elementor but not using its features, or using old Elementor methods (ex.: demos assigning Elementor templates to types they are nor supposed to …). Or sometimes when trying to edit a page under Elementor, it brakes the editor at loading, sometimes telling that “the page has no post content” and all must be redesigned again.

So i try to recap in as few questions as possible, all in the context of Elementor Pro (answers could be different otherwise):

    • GD page templates (x3): must these exist at all, or can they be suppressed, or can be left in draft mode? are they used, or ignored completely ? must they still be set in GD “setting” tab or field can be left empty there ? will these pages be recreated by GD automatically on upgrade ?
    • The Search page & Location page: in your demo, they have “some” content, but they also seems to be overriden completely by an Elementor template completely (like if GD was dynamically supressing the content and creating the error described above) … normal ? Shall these pages edited there, or using an Elementor template override ONLY method ?
    • Elementor main post type assignment (Elementor > Settings > General > Post Types): in your demo, Elementor is NOT assigned to the GD CPT (ex.: “Studios”) … normal ? a must to be so ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Fabrice

    Hi Fabrice,

Have you watched these videos? They cover the Elementor Pro integration and, in particular, the workflow for GD Single, GD Archive, and GD Archive Item templates:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEdOOucOtUg

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILm5ylz-ioI

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFAnC1HQZXg&t=29s

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poh0UToleYA

The recommended method is to use Elementor > Templates > Theme Builder, where GeoDirectory adds dedicated GD Single, GD Archive, and GD Archive Item sections. You create the layouts there and use Elementor’s display conditions to determine where the Single and Archive templates are used. The Archive Item is then selected as the skin/template within the Elementor Archive Posts widget.

While you can edit the underlying GeoDirectory template pages directly with Elementor, the recommended approach with Elementor Pro is to use the Theme Builder instead.

So I think some of the inconsistencies you’re seeing may come from mixing those two approaches. I would first try following the Theme Builder workflow shown in the videos rather than editing the GD template pages themselves.

Also, please go through our Elementor Pro documentation, which explains the intended setup in more detail:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/documentation/article/builders/elementor-pro-getting-started/

If you’ve already watched those videos and followed the documentation exactly, let me know where your setup starts behaving differently from what is shown there, and we can look at that specific issue.

    Hi Paolo,

I think with 300k+ posts, in 25+ cpts (via plugins, via ACF, or coded myself) & 400k un. visitors/day … i think i classify within advanced users … (but possibly my problems come *because* of my complex environment) … just to say that i am eager to learn more -no problem- , but your 5 video are extremely entry level. Even the 3rd video points a bit the confusion page-template vs elemetor-template.
    So again my precise questions:
GD *page* templates (x3): must these exist at all, or can they be suppressed, or can be left in draft mode? are they used, or ignored completely ? must they still be set in GD “setting” tab or field can be left empty there ? will these pages be recreated by GD automatically on upgrade ?
Elementor main post type assignment (Elementor > Settings > General > Post Types): in your demo, Elementor is NOT assigned to the GD CPT (ex.: “Studios”) … normal ? a must to be so ?

    Hello,

Let me try and answer your outstanding questions.

    1. I would leave them in place and make sure everything is working before trying to remove them. They are referenced in routing queries so might cause issues if removed. It might be possible to remove them but if you are having issues I would make sure they are there for now. They will not be recreated on upgrade but you can recreate them manually in GD Tools section.
    2. That is correct and should remain off.

If you still have issues please open a ticket on our site and we can assign you a developer to assist you further.

    Thanks,

    Stiofan
