As a test, instead of copy/pasting Section styles, try using it on Widgets. Create two headings for example, each with a different font size and color, etc. Right-click on the first heading’s widget handle, and click Copy, then right-click on the second heading’s widget handle and click Paste Style. It’s easier to focus on what is or isn’t changing on a smaller test like a widget than an entire section.
Also, make sure you are using the most updated versions of Elementor, Elementor Pro (if you are using that), and your theme. Sometimes it isn’t obvious that there is an update available. Go to Dashboard > Updates and click the Check Again button to be sure.
Let us know what happens with that test.

Hi – many thanks for your reply
I’m using WP 5, up-to-date Parabola theme, Elementor 2.3.4. One thing I noticed in the System Info was:
Errors:
TypeError: n is undefined
at https://xxxxxxxxxxx/wp-content/plugins/elementor/assets/js/editor.min.js?ver=2.3.4 – 2:136722
I’ve now tried copying styles from one widget to another, and sure enough that works fine. I suspect I may be overreaching myself with trying to copy section styles, and in fact copying widget styles is probably all I need to be able to do – it’s entirely possible that I was expecting too much of the software.
I would appreciate your thoughts on that error, though.
Thanks
I think it’s likely just a misunderstanding of what gets copied and pasted. So, for example, if you were to put a border around one section, and copy that section, and then paste the style onto another section, the second section would then get that same border around it. However, the widgets inside each section don’t get changed.
As far as the error is concerned, I have no way of knowing what that might be from, sorry.

Misunderstanding it is then; I’m OK with that. Thanks for your help.
If anyone else has any idea what that error might mean – I’m all ears!
