Converting “events” post type from Chronicles theme

I’m migrating my WordPress installation and trying to start from scratch while preserving the data, and I have a significant number of posts of type “events” that are apparently not handled by WordPress natively – and I suspect it was a feature of the custom theme we were using at the time (“Chronicles”). I installed a popular plugin that manages events, but it’s apparently not picking-up this post type either.

With that background out of the way, I wanted to ask if anyone has a recommendation on how to get these posts back in a reasonable way, or if the best suggestion is to just change the post type from “events” to “post” or something else properly supported.
