Hello @dtrim,
Thank you so much for getting in touch.
The purpose of the global robots meta settings in Rank Math is to set a default behavior for category pages. This ensures that any new categories you create will automatically inherit these settings, and existing categories that haven’t been individually configured will also follow the default.
We do include a warning when you try to change the robots meta for individual posts or categories that differ from the global setting (you can see an example here: https://i.rankmath.com/i/2thy6v). The reason you are still able to manually set individual posts or categories to “index” even when the global setting is “noindex” is to give users flexibility and control over specific content, while still maintaining the convenience of a default global configuration.
We completely understand your point and appreciate your suggestion for a stronger notice or alert. Feedback like yours helps us improve the plugin and make it more intuitive for everyone.
If you have any other questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
