• I’ve read all I can on this issue which is messing up WP installs. It seems most folks are finding some fix or workaround, but none seem to help fix the problems on my site, http://www.ericnentrup.com.

    Yes, I was a careless upgrader, using DreamHost.com’s simply “upgrade” widget once 2.3 came out. Of course, I didn’t deactivate my plugins or examine any possible conflicts.

    And that’s when I got the “”wp_categories doesn’t exist…” error on my WP Dashboard.

    Also…as you can see if you visit my site, the posts have flowed right into the sidebar, making a mess of my layout.

    Well…I read up, found K2 to be a possible culprit and manually replaced it on my webserver with a fresh install from getk2.com. I also deactivated ALL my plugins, and between those two actions, the error message disappeared. But the messed up sidebar still exists.

    I simply can NOT find a solution OR find a comprehensive, linear one that doesn’t presume prior knowledge by beginning on step 13 of an 87 step process.

    I need help that starts with STEP 1, and goes to completion, yielding a cleaned up database playing nicely with WP and K2.

    Thoughts?

  • This is the only solution I could find:

    * cat_ID –> term_ID
    * categories –> terms
    * cat_name –> name

    What the %^&** I am supposed to do with this sparkling piece of data, I don’t know. But if you spend a couple of hours researching post after post, you will see moderators dumping THESE THREE LINES into a thread, without the slightest explanation and that’s it.

    Maybe someone with some skills working tech support for a living will figure out what to do, and post something lucid that someone who isn’t a php coder or a theme designer can use.

    I’m so POed at the WordPress community right now, I could spit.

    How many months ago did 2.3 come out? Maybe Matt M. is so busy thinking about how much money he’s going to make from selling Automattic, he can’t be bothered.

    Of course, the dude who wrote the theme I’m using hasn’t lifted a finger to release an upgrade, either.

    I’m about thisclose to switching back to Movable Type.

    Turns out billdennis5 problem was something different:

    Yeah. And I feel like a cranky old idiot, too.
