    Howdy Nowton,

    that function is for the global wp_query object. Considering you are using it in a widget, perhaps that is why its behavior is unexpected. It is telling you if the current page’s global query is upcoming or not. That might not be what you wish to know.

    I am sorry you have had difficulties this last release. It has actually been pretty smooth for the community. We did have one unfortunate bug slip past that we are going to fix shortly in 3.9.1, but aside from that there has been very little in the way reports of problems. I wish your experience was the same.

    Let us know what you are trying to do. Maybe a member of the community can recommend a function or method more suites to the task, assuming you are not trying to check the main query if it is upcoming. Cheers!
