i am having simultaneous issues with all forms of file compression via backwpup.

tar and tar.gz files are giving me the ‘file name too long’ warning as described here. the filenames in question are generated automatically when media is uploaded to the site, so can’t be avoided.

when i switch to zip files i can never get past around 70% on “Compressing files as ZipArchive” – it eventually leads to the following error: “ZIP archive cannot be closed correctly”.

since i can’t compress my site backups using any of the 3 options available – what am i advised to do?

  • Hi @flatpack-music
Could you please check if the server has out of disk quota?
    Thank you

    hi, thanks for replying.

it’s not a disk quota issue – i’ve checked across several installs. this is something that i experience on almost all the sites i run. compressing to zip just never completes. tar is fine, unless there are files with long names.

    Hi @flatpack-music
Sorry about the long delay, is it possible for you to split the one job into multiple smaller jobs, something like:
    – DB backup job
    – installed plugin backup job
    – wp-content backup
    – uploads folder backup
    is that help?

since this has not been responded to in a while, I’m going to mark it as resolved.
If you’re still having problems, feel free to let us know.
    Thank you!
