    This happens for me too, or rather something similar.

    When creating a page for the first time, if I change the default comments/pings settings, those changes are not saved. However, if I go back and edit the page and again set the settings the way I want them, they are saved this second time.

    I believe this issue is the same as that addressed in this bug report

    ceo: Can you change the settings if you go back and edit the page, or is your situation different?

    No, my settings are saved when I post – just no matter what the settings are, the comment form won’t appear on the page.

    Can we remove that link up there by chance, since, uh, it’s not my site (though this problem still exists as far as I know). 😉
