Try:
– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.
– running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php
OK! Now commenting works. Can I change back to my custom theme? YES! That worked. Thank you for your quick and effective help!!
If you do change back, your comment functionality may disappear again – in which case, the problem lies within your custom(?) theme.
Oh. Now I need to try re-activating plug-ins one-by-one? I bet it’s the wibya toolbar that’s causing the issue.

I am trying to reply to a comment and the page hangs at this url http://homegrown.org/blog/wp-comments-post.php with a blank screen. I’ve just updated from 3.4 to 3.4.2 and am still having the problem. I’ve tried replying from the WP dashboard as well and that doesn’t work either. I type the text in the comment box, the circle makes one cycle, but then the text remains in the field with no comment.
We do use a custom theme.
