• I like commenting on blogs, but on some WordPress blogs, there is a message at the bottom of each post, “You must be logged in to comment.”

This message is somewhat ambiguous. Does it mean I must be logged into my own wordpress account, or does it mean I must be the administrator of the particular blog I am trying to comment on?

In the latter case, the message would be synonymous to “You do not have permission to post on this blog.”

I’m guessing it means the latter but I wanted to make sure.

  • It means the owner/admin of the blog is not allowing commenting without registering for/logging in to their blog

It is a fairly generic statement, its up to the blog owner/theme writer to code in what is said

But, are yiou referring to wordpress.org self-hosted blogs, or wordpress.com?

They are different. If you have an account at wordpress.com it has nothing to do with standalone wordpress.org blogs

As Rev. Voodoo stated, you’ll have to log in to that site. Sometimes it’s through a third party plugin. Either way, it’s not you being logged in to WP.

If you want more specifics, could you perhaps post a link or two?

Thanks for the replies. I think you’re right.

Here is an example of a blog that says “You must be logged in to comment.”

yeah, for that site you’d have to register on their site, and then log in to comment.

WordPress sites aren’t ‘connected’. You’d have to register at each individually
