    Hi everyone,

I am hosting a wordpress blog on bluehost. Since I transitioned from a different blogging software, I first set everything up with the direct site address (e.g. 66.x.x.x/~smashatt/) and then had wordpress point to my correct domain name later.

The problem that I am having is that when someone subscribes to comments, wordpress sends them e-mails with links in the format of 66.x.x.x/~smashatt/blahblahblah instead of my domain name. The links they are sending are also broken links.

    Can anyone provide a solution?

    Thanks,
    Smash

So, on the “Settings/General” tab in the WordPress Address (URL) & Site Address (URL) text boxes, you have what, right now?

Okay, I just submitted a comment to your top post. If I understand your problem, I should get bad links coming to me when others leave a comment, correct? I’ll let you know if I do.

You may have to do a search and replace in your DB to change the instances of the IP address you originally used with your URL that you changed to 🙁

    This “could” help you: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-and-replace/

Question, I just received the email for subscribing to your comments, and your site looks to be on WordPress.com. Is that so?

Um, I’m hosting with BlueHost and not using .com. How strange!

Did the links lead you to my test blog http://66.147.244.216/~smashatt? My husband is taking what you said and looking into it. He thinks you might be on to something… 🙂

Yeah, the links in the email were to the test blog. Are you using the JetPack plugin to take advantage of WP.com’s email subscriptions?

Could be a case where they have your old address (the test) and not the new? I’ve never used JetPack, but I would try uninstalling and reinstalling (assuming you’re using that, of course 🙂 )

So, I think the Jetpack thing worked! I will test on a new post tomorrow. THANK YOU!
