Not yet, but we’ve already been discussing that feature. We hope to get into the next release, along with some comment-spam detection and management features.
Hmm, seems that I’ve been too fast again. I’ve written a patch for 0.72 gold today, that I’ll release later this evening. So maybe this could be regarded as a proposal implementation (that I made without knowing what the developers have discussed so far). If it won’t make to the CVS it was at least a nice job to do, in order to learn more about the WordPress internals π
My patch adds a new option to the configuration options for switching comment moderation on and off. It also adds a new field to $tablecomments that indicates if a comment has been approved. The approval panel is more or less dumb, it just lists all not-yet-approved comments and allows to skip, approve or delete each entry. So there is no real magic behind it.
Optimization could be done for notification of the admin or a group of moderators, and one thing I forgot so far (will be implemented before the release) is that the user notification must be done as soon as a comment is approved.

otaku42: Excellent. You’ve just caused me to start getting ready to put WordPress on my site!
So I hope you won’t be disappointed about my hack π
I’ll release it this evening. Yesterday I didn’t find the time anymore, and during this day I have to go and get my new car… but when I return home, I’ll let you know where you can get the hack.
Do you have knowledge of using patch & co under Unix-based systems, or should I provide an archive containing all the changed files? Or both?

I know patch (I’ve been running Linux for 4 years, and now have managed to land a job with is all Linux/UNIX – its made me happy π ), but I’m sure there are people who would benefit from your hack who don’t. So I suggest you put out both.
Just to let you know about the current state: I was short of time, so the hack was delayed a bit. I just sent it over to Matt, as he wanted to review it. It may happen that my patch will find its way to the CVS… maybe, maybe not (so don’t hold your breath).
I’ll keep you uptodate.
Bye, Mike
I’m going to look at it this afternoon.
