• A few days ago I discovered that I had the “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.” block even though I hadn’t posted a comment in days. It has been a few days since then, and it’s still there.

How long does it take for this block to go away? It seems to be tied to my IP and not going away, and I don’t know why. Posting a comment from another location works fine.

    Thanks.

  • I had never seen this happen so I had no idea. One of the other support people told me about this article https://frique.me/blog/disabling-wordpress-comment-flood-prevention/

There’s a function you can add to your theme to cause that to stop checking that completely that’s mentioned in the above article.

Thanks, but I’ve already seen that. I don’t want to disable it completely; I just want the block of my IP to go away. I have no clue why I’ve been blocked for almost a week now.

Do you mean on WordPress.org you discovered* that you were posting too fast?

Yes, it’s self-hosted WordPress. As I said, I hadn’t posted a comment in days (and I only posted 1 comment at that time), and the block lasted more than a few days.

But today I tried posting a comment and it worked. I don’t know why it took almost a week to lift. I’ll continue to monitor the situation for issues.

There is no “blocking” mechanism. Instead it simply looks at the last comment you wrote, and compares the time between that one and the new one. If they’re under 15 seconds apart, you get that message.

15 seconds? That’s weird, because I was getting it for days without leaving a comment. But okay.
