Comment Error

I installed wordPress 2.0.1 yesterday and got it up and running seemingly without too much hassel. Needed a little help from a friend, but mostly it was smooth sailing. I’ve posted a couple test comments and went to post a response, and I get a 404. From what I have read, I need to edit my .htaccess file, of which I can’t find. I run on a Mac and have RD into a Windows box, and also used different FTP clients with hidden files shown, but still can not seem to find an .htaccess file. Am I running into permission restrictions on a different file or ?
