To illustrate the problem more clearly. This plugin is converting the comment author’s name into a link that points back to comment link on the page. It is doing this for all comment author names.

I currently have the plugin deactivated but can reactivate it when you are ready to take a look.

    Hi there,

Sorry for our late reply, but we have had some problems with receiving the notifications of publications made in the support area of the plugin.

Why do you have problems with this behaviour? This is quite common in WordPress themes and we don’t see it as a problem.

Could you please explain why this is a problem and why we should change this behaviour?

Sorry that we didn’t reply earlier.

    Best regards.

    Hi apasionados,

It is a problem because most of the comments on my site are user reviews of the company in my post. Reviewers that link to their own websites have more credibility than ones that do not. If all of the commenters names turn into links and most point to the same url at the post that the comment is on, there is no way to distinguish a commenter who is using his own website versus ones that points back to the post URL.

Addtionally, some of my posts have hundreds (even thousands) of comments. I believe that it could be harmful from an SEO perspective to have hundreds of links on a post pointing back to the same URL as the post.

Lastly, I think it is a bad practice from both a design and usability standpoint to turn commenter names into links that do nothing more than direct the user right back to the place they are already visiting. It is both pointless and confusing.

Your plugin does exactly what I want it to do except for this one problem, which makes it useless for me and probably many others. I would be happy to make a donation if you were able to fix it.

    Hi there,

We have changed the behaviour as you requested and uploaded versión 2.6 with these changes.

Please have a look if the plugin now has the behaviour you expect.

    Best regards.

oh wow, that is really great!

I noticed one other thing that would be very helpful. Could you add a way to say that any links within a certain site can be followed? For example, you can currently set http://abc.com to be followed, but that does not propagate to say http://abc.com/post-title. I would like be able to set any comment link that points within a page of a particular website as followed.

We made some tests in the past and unfortunately this is not posible as it slows down the retrieval from the database of the comments.

If there are only a few comments you don’t notice, but when there are more, there is a delay which we don’t want. We haven’t found a way to speed it up.

    Sorry.

OK, I found a work-a-around that should accomplish what I need it to do. It’ll just take some manual effort.

Let me know where I can make a donation 🙂

We are happy that the changes suit your needs.

It would be great if you could update your rating of the plugin to reflect this.

As the issue is resolved, we will mark the topic as resolved.
