Hi there,
Thank you for contacting us regarding the difficulties you are facing.
The prefix and suffix help you differentiate or add an identifier to your variation fields such as color, size, etc.
For example, if you have selected three different variation attributes for the variation profiling, you will see a combined value such as ColorSizeType, and the option values would appear as: ColorValue-SizeValue-TypeValue.
If your color values are red and blue, size values are two and four, and type values are sneaker and boot, and you set the prefixes as:
1. for color
2. for size
3. for type
Then the exported variations would look something like:
1.red-2.four-3.sneaker
This format would apply to all other possible combinations as well.
As for the suffix, it works the same way, but the identifier appears at the end, for example:
red1.-four2.-sneaker3.
I hope this clears things up. If you have any further questions, please let us know, we’re here to help.

ok – but on the profiling section when I select the size attribute nothing comes up. And cannot add prefix, suffix etc. I can add them for other attributes but not for size is this a bug or the way it works?

I figured it out, it wasn’t working properly because it didn’t like the brackets in size (cm). When I used just size it allowed me to add the attributes required.
Hi there,
Thank you for the update and for sharing what you discovered.
You are correct. Special characters such as brackets in attribute names (for example, “Size (cm)”) can prevent the attribute from being properly recognized in the variation profiling section. Renaming the attribute to a simpler format like “Size” usually resolves this behavior.
I’m glad to hear that you were able to identify the cause and get it working on your end. Please feel free to reach out if you run into any other questions while setting up your variations for Etsy. We’ll be happy to assist.
Best regards,
