Clean URLs on Tomcat Server

Hello,

I am running a WordPress site on a tomcat server and am encountering a bit of a problem with permalinks/clean URLs. If I use the default page set up, I can visit the pages of my site fine, but when I try to change the permalinks to show the postname, the site just redirects to the homepage every time I hit a link.

I know running WordPress on anything but apache is not ideal, but my website is running a java program in the backend that controls all the functionality.

Any help would be great.
