Kind of an unusual dilemma: a client has a WP install, current version.

Unfortunately, whoever originally configured this site modified the original Twenty Eleven theme files years ago. I am gradually writing a child theme, which is now active – but – the underlying Twenty Eleven parent theme is pretty old – version 1.5. I have dealt with the CSS, comparing the modified parent theme with an original copy, and copying over all of the CSS changes to the child theme’s CSS file. But when I go in and update the Twenty Eleven parent theme, with the child theme still being active, the header image I have set in the child theme vanishes.

Are not the theme customizing settings in a child theme supposed to override those in the parent theme?

    TIA for your help!
