• I am sooooo new to this, so you have my apologies in advance.

I realized shortly after creating my site that I should have done customizations on a Child Theme. I’ve already created my site and everything is on point, so I’m not sure what to do when it comes to fixing this.

    What I’ve done so far:

-Downloaded Make’s Child Theme zip file
-Uploaded the Child Theme zip file
-Opened two windows: one with my current site’s Customize panel, the other under Live Preview of the Child Theme
-I went through and adjusted all of my settings under the Child Theme to match the parent

But next… I have to click Save & Activate. I’m scared to! From there, not even sure what I need to do. Any advice would be such a help. Thank you so much!

    Best,
    Meghan

  • Hi Meghan,

So WordPress sees the parent and child themes as separate, so customizer settings are what would be lost. If you’ve recreated them, you should be fine!

    Good luck!

Also, wow!! I love your blog!

    Melissa:

Thanks for the quick response. (And for saying such nice words about my blog, geez. <3!)

I did change things manually, maybe a few. I’ll have to figure that out. I think it was the footer and maybe something else small. So basically, I can leave it as is? I mean, updating the theme should be ok now?

Sorry for being so seemingly dense, just learning.

    Thanks again!

If you’ve made changes to the footer.php file or any of the style.css you can simply make a copy of those into the child theme folder and you won’t lose any edits.

    Hope that helps!
