The instructions you want are at:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
It tells you how to have WordPress in its own folder, while letting your visitors specify only the domain main to access WordPress.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to retrace your steps to correct what you have done. If not, consider restoring from a backup of WordPress files and the WordPress database. If you didn’t make one yourself, your web host may still have a copy that is from before you made changes. Be sure to contant them quickly as many web hosts erase all previous versions as soon as they make the next backup, which could be as frequently as daily!
I have retraced my steps and still anything other than the home page loads as a blank page.. I don’t believe I’ve lost anything as all of my content is still there in the admin.
Why is this doing this..???
Thanks for the link Adiant! I’ll try it out, but feel like this should be corrected first?
Update is not good.. followed those instructions and now i get Directory has no index file” when at the page.. despite the fact that the index file seems to be there?
I still have admin.. How do I fix this?
Help Please!
As I said above, if you cannot put things back to the way they were before you started making changes:
restore from a backup of WordPress files and the WordPress database. If you didn’t make one yourself, your web host may still have a copy that is from before you made changes. Be sure to contant them quickly as many web hosts erase all previous versions as soon as they make the next backup, which could be as frequently as daily!
It is hard to advise on a reinstall because you also made changes to the database. Perhaps others will have some ideas.
But at least try restoring from a backup. It is the best way to put things back to the way that they were.
Ok. I downloaded a backup from two days ago.. it doesn’t say how i restore this..
(it just provides instructions through the download, which i have on my desktop)
How do I proceed to run the backup??
Thanks so much Adiant!
Web hosts vary on how they do their backups. So, it is hard for me to predict exactly what you have.
But, starting at the basics, it is essential to (also) have the Database backup, not just the /wordpress_2010/ folder, which contains all the WordPress files but NOT the database itself.
I don’t know if you have a “entire account” backup, which normally includes all your databases, or just a backup of your files.
Is the backup a single file? If so, does it have a .zip or .gz extension?
There is a lot of great documentation on WordPress and Backups here, including links to even more info:
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
On second thought, an easier approach would be to ask your Web host’s support folks to completely restore your account (including databases) to two days ago. Most will do it for you for free.
It gave me a .dmp file extension for the database..
I hadn’t seen a host that backups databases in .dmp form before, so I had to see who you were using to host.
This is your host’s documentation on how to restore a database:

But, to avoid confusion, you also need to restore WordPress files at the same time (which may include your Root directory, since you sound like you have put some files there, too). The database and WordPress files have to be in sync.
