• I think I want to change my theme because I don’t like how my current theme looks on mobile. The problem is I’ve already put a lot of work into it, and I don’t want to lose my work. If I activate a new theme, is there a way to change it back to exactly how it is right now with all the changes I’ve made to the old theme?

For reference, the website is lauraquere.com. I’m using the Lodestar theme, and I’m considering switching to Peony.

  • You have to make a back-up of your website. Can you access your server with FTP? If yes, just go there and donwload the ‘wp-content’ folder.

After that you can mess around with your themes,plug-ins, etc. If anything goes wrong, just replace the messed around wp-content with the one you’ve backed-up.

Changing the theme will not change your content. You will have to check your widget locations and re-designate your menus to specific menu locations, but that should be about it.

If you have an access to the file system of your website, you can backup your current theme finding it in the wp-content/themes folder. Also you can duplicate your theme folder and have two different versions of your theme. Changing themes will not change the content of your site. That means that you can change themes as often as you want and do not lose your work 🙂
