• So I am taking over a site, and need to change the theme.

This is my first time. The current theme up now is a child believe. If I were to install a new theme, would that delete all of the content?

I don’t 100% understand child themes. Plus one the current theme now it says

“This child theme requires it’s parent theme”

    Thanks!

  • Changing the theme does not affect the content of a site.

A child theme is a way to be able to make changes to the parent theme without having those changes be overwritten when the theme is updated.

    Have you seen this:

Can you post a link to your site? It sounds like it is a child theme, yes.

Still, it’s always a good idea to backup a site and database before you start making changes like this –

    Thanks for your feedback.

I did some searching and saw suggestions on backing it up and did that.

I was able to successfully change the theme, for some reason I thought that a child theme was like a sub-theme so your page wouldn’t be changed.

Basically like if you were updating your index.html page, but didn’t want the contents to change so you name it index1.html…if that makes sense.

Again thanks for taking the time on giving feedback 🙂
