I am trying to edit the home page of my website betterthanfreesolar.co.uk but when I click “Edit Page”, it is trying to get me to edit an old version of the home page that is no longer active.

I am using the theme Orbit.

Not sure how to go about editing the content as there are obvious mistakes on there!

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Simon

Well, this homepage is using page-id-212, so if this is incorrect to the ID of the page you want to you use, I would firstly check in ‘Settings’ -> ‘Reading’ and check if your front page setting is correct.

When I go to Settings > Reading, I get the correct static page that I want on the home page.

Also, what do you mean by page-id-212?

    Thanks

Well every post and page in WordPress has a unique ID. You can see these when in ‘All Pages’ screen of WP admin (where list of all your pagaes are) and by hovering over each page title, you can see the URL in the bottom of your browser show you what the page ID is for that page. The homepage on your site is using page ID 212 so cross reference this.

I do see id-212 when I put my mouse over the home page link. So it should work, right?

When I went to “Edit Page”, the new version was there but when I try to edit that, it will not edit the actual home page.

You have major errors in the site. The scripts, meta etc which load in the head of the HTML document are in the content body of the site. It’s like someone has removed them from the <head> section and placed them in the <body>. Not good.

You cannot even run a HTML checker on there due to the errors.

That doesn’t sound good at all!

Any idea how I get to the place where I can move them back into the <head> tag?

    Thanks for your help

My first stop would be header.php in your theme.

I went to the theme customization area of the Dashboard and went into front-page.php and the content was in there!

    Thanks for helping out 🙂
