Changing Default Header Color

    All,
    I would like to change the very nice BLUE in the default WordPress 1.5 theme to a Purple ( I have the HEX code ). I have tried a couple times to do it, but when I save it ( using the TextEdit tool that comes with Mac OSX 10.4.2 ) I get lines of garbage in the “Theme” selection choices on my BLOG.

    What am I missing here ?
