    Hi!

I am really hoping you guys can help me.

I’ve been building my website using wordpress and everything was going really well..

Until I went to Settings (I believe, I can’t check anymore) and saw that you could change the urls.

As I registered http://www.sofinephotography.com but the url at wordpress said http://www.sofinephotography.com/wordpress/ I thought it would be wise to delete the /wordpress/ part. So I did. However, when I saved this change, the whole page was gone. I can’t enter the dashboard anymore, nor the website.

    It keeps giving this error:

    Not Found
The requested URL /wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sofinephotography.com%2Fwordpress%2Fwp-admin%2Fthemes.php%3Factivated%3Dtrue&reauth=1 was not found on this server.

I can still go to http://www.sofinephotography.com/wordpress/
but then the whole layout is gone.

Is there any way to fix this, or can I completely start over? As long as I get my dashboard back, I think I can fix it, but I have no idea how to do this.

    Please help!

  • You have to move the site files to the root folder and then update the database with one of these methods…

    Ok thanks!

Could you tell me how I move the site files to the root folder, and where I can find this?

I think I can do the rest with the link you gave me, thanks, but a little help with the rest would be much appreciated!

And which files exactly too, please. Thanks so much if you’d be able to help me out!

You may want to hire someone to do this, but you can move the files with FTP software or through your hosting control panel. Since you have already changed the URL in the database, when you move all of the files in the /wordpress folder to the parent folder, your site will be back. It’s easy to fix if you know what you’re doing.

If you want to hire someone, post it here http://jobs.wordpress.net/

Haha yeah and I clearly don’t know what I’m doing πŸ˜‰

I’ve built websites with wordpress before and for a girl, I think I’m doing reasonably ok, but this is a little beyond me. Or at least, I completely understand what you’re saying and what I’m supposed to do, but I can’t actually do it myself. I can’t seem to find the FTP software nor does can I find the hosting control panel (which rather seems to be a problem of the hosting website, but I can email them for guidance).

I think I will do that then, ask my hosting company whether they can do something about it.

Unless you could tell me where to find the FTP information, because I don’t really know where to look. Moving the /wordpress folder to the parent folder seems easy enough, now I just need to know where.

    Thanks again! πŸ™‚

OK, so I’ve done something πŸ™‚

I went to my hosting website, and uninstalled the WordPress plug, then reinstalled it. This time, I made sure the url was http://www.sofinephotography.com and not with /wordpress/ behind it.

I can easily rebuild the whole template and website, that’s no problem. It’s lost work of the whole night, but that I don’t really mind.

But now the website still won’t show and gives me this message:

Welcome to the home of sofinephotography.com
To change this page, upload your website into the public_html directory

Any idea how to do this, and more importantly, where? So if I upload the website in the public_html directory, the correct url should show the correct website?

    ANOTHER update πŸ˜‰

I managed to get the whole website back, but with the http://www.sofinephotography.com/wordpress/ url. For now this will be fine, and I will get somebody to change the url later.

    Thanks!

I have all the options listed by wordpress and it is STILL not working. What do I do now?

@visite1 – It’s better to start your own thread and be more clear about the problem. It also helps to provide a link to your site.
