CF7, Child theme, google recaptcha server side integration

Have installed reCaptcha on client this is showing before send button on customised CF7 form.. and able to send messages. However, having problem with server side integration understanding exactly >what code is required and where it goes. (the plugins are not suitable- have tried two each with its own problems. From google developer page it should be possible to use <HTML> to integrate (I have both API keys). There are several possible locations for insertion of code: Child Theme CSS, Web Page contact form CSS Styles, Edit the CF7 form itself, Child theme functions.php. Google suggest ‘Paste this snippet'<script src=’https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api.js’></script> before the closing </head> tag on your HTML template. What exact location/file does this refer to?
If anyone could give a really simple step by step guide with sample code and where to place it that would be worth its weight in Gold. Much of the information I have seen to date either directs you to a plug in or does not explain simple steps. Any help most welcome
